Questions we often receive

What are the sustainable benefits of hemp?

Hemp is one of the most sustainable natural fibers in the world. Here's why:

Low environmental impact cultivation:
Hemp requires no additional irrigation and grows rapidly without the use of pesticides or chemical fertilizers. It grows very well worldwide and is not restricted to a specific area (unlike cotton and flax, for example).

Soil regeneration
The plant's deep roots improve soil structure and prevent erosion. Additionally, hemp absorbs large amounts of CO₂ during growth.

Zero waste
Every part of the plant can be used: fibers for fabrics, seeds for food and oils, hurds for biocomposites and building materials.

Durability and long product life
Hemp fabrics are naturally durable, breathable, and antibacterial. This makes them more durable, reducing the need for frequent replacements.

Biodegradability
At the end of their life cycle, pure hemp products decompose naturally without releasing toxic substances into the environment.

Steva Hemp transforms production waste into hemp paper (also available for purchase) or panels for green building, thanks to the collaboration with the German company Rottal Hanf (Germany), specialized in the optimization of hemp fiber.

What are the advantages of hemp textiles?

Hemp textiles offer a unique combination of sustainability, functionality and comfort:

Sustainable and natural
Derived from a plant that grows rapidly without pesticides, hemp fabrics are eco-friendly and biodegradable.

Strong and durable
Hemp fiber is among the most robust in nature: the fabrics resist wear and tear, frequent washing and last over time.

Breathable and thermoregulating
Hemp garments are cool in summer and warm in winter thanks to the hollow structure of the fiber, which promotes breathability.

Natural antibacterial and anti-UV protection
Hemp has antibacterial properties and offers natural protection against ultraviolet rays.

Increasing comfort with use
While it may initially feel stiffer than cotton, especially in heavier weights, hemp softens with each wash, becoming increasingly comfortable.

How are hemp textiles washed and how long do they last?

Hemp textiles are easy to maintain and known for their long life.
Here are some helpful tips:

Washing:
Wash at low or medium temperatures (30–40°C) with a mild detergent. Avoid harsh bleaches.

Drying:
Air dry is best. You can use a dryer, but it may accelerate wear.

Ironing:
Iron on a medium heat while the fabric is still slightly damp for best results. Ironing with an industrial ironer is possible; in this case, we recommend wet ironing.

Duration:

Hemp is one of nature's most durable fibers. Hemp garments can last for many years, becoming softer and more comfortable over time. On average, with proper care, they last three times longer than other natural fabrics.

With proper care, hemp textiles retain their quality and beauty for a very long time.

I am a private customer, can I purchase your products?

Of course, in the atelier section we offer a range of products for private individuals. We have a small stock in stock, the rest is produced on-site and upon request.

Where are Steva Hemp products produced?

Our fabrics are made from carefully selected hemp fibers, sourced primarily from Europe and, when necessary, from suppliers outside the EU. Suppliers are always chosen with the utmost care and attention to traceability and quality.

For the heavier weights (265gsm and 365gsm) we prefer natural, unbleached fabrics in the natural colour of hemp, which varies from beige to light grey.

For the thinnest weights (165gsm) we have chosen a palette of neutral colours, which do not follow trends and always remain elegant.

We use only certified dyes that are safe for the skin and the environment. We can also produce specific colors upon request.

The design and manufacturing of our products are carried out entirely in Italy, between Alto Adige and Lombardy, following a short supply chain approach: we work closely with local artisans and oversee every stage of the process, from cutting to sewing. We also have an in-house manufacturing workshop, where we produce small runs of products. This proximity allows us not only to ensure rigorous quality control but also to reduce the environmental impact of transportation.

Each product is the result of an artisanal process that combines tradition, innovation, and responsibility , transforming hemp into fabrics with a unique character, made to last over time and tell a story of conscious beauty.

What are the advantages of hemp over cotton?

Hemp requires up to 4 times less water, grows in more areas of the world without artificial irrigation or pesticides, is more resistant and breathable: a more sustainable and durable fabric.

Are Steva Hemp products certified organic or sustainable?

Currently, there is no globally recognized certification for hemp fabric, partly because the plant grows without the use of pesticides and chemicals. Steva Hemp works with Oko-Tex certified suppliers and guarantees a short supply chain, without intermediaries.

Are Steva Hemp fabrics 100% hemp or mixed with other materials?

Steva Hemp fabrics are 100% hemp. For some products (decorative pillows, spa bags) and upon request, we offer an optional blend of 30% hemp and 70% cotton, both fibers 100% sourced from Europe.

Why do hemp products cost more than other fabrics?

The price of hemp textiles reflects a unique production process, made up of artisanal steps, longer lead times, and higher-quality materials.

Hemp is an ancient fiber, grown without pesticides and requiring minimal water. After harvesting, the stalks are dehulled and processed through wet spinning , a gentle process that softens the fibers and preserves their natural strength, in a purely mechanical process that requires no chemicals.

The resulting fabric thus maintains all its natural authenticity , with unbleached variants and, when colored, always with certified azo-free dyes , safe for the environment and for the wearer.

The yarn is then woven in Italy or abroad, depending on specific needs and the availability of looms.

This is where our work begins: the fabrics are entrusted to expert hands and handcrafted in Italy , between Alto Adige and Lombardy. Each piece is carefully cut, sewn, and finished, following a short supply chain approach that allows us to control quality down to the smallest detail and minimize waste.

Investing in hemp products means choosing a textile that lasts longer , requires washing at lower temperatures (consequently saving water and energy) and that, at the end of its life, is biodegradable and therefore does not leave harmful traces in the environment.

The initial cost may seem higher than other fabrics, but the true value lies in its durability, comfort, and the positive impact it generates: for you, for your guests, for the planet.

What types of products do you offer?

In the "atelier" section, you can find a selection of our most popular products: bed linens, table linens, blankets, decorative pillows, and bags. To help you choose, we've also created hemp packages, called "hemp rituals," to help you explore the world of hemp textiles.

Why should a hotel choose hemp fabrics?

Because hemp is the fiber that works best in high-use hospitality.

Fewer washes, lower costs

Hemp is naturally antibacterial: it requires less washing than cotton, reducing water, energy, and detergent consumption.

Longer lasting

It resists the wear and tear of industrial washing and lasts up to 3 times longer than other fabrics. Fewer replacements, less waste, and less expense over time.

Comfort that improves

It gradually softens with each wash — your guests will perceive it as something increasingly precious over time.

An experience that tells its story

Today's guests seek authenticity and informed choices. Sleeping, eating, or relaxing on 100% hemp fabrics is a detail that stands out and is remembered.

Certifiable sustainability

Choosing Steva Hemp contributes to the company's ESG objectives, with a controlled supply chain, predominantly Italian production and zero waste.
