In the textile world, the word “waste” is often synonymous with loss. Economic loss, material loss, loss of value. But is that really the case? If we look closely at the textile industry’s production cycle, we notice a reality that is rarely talked about: a significant portion of raw material never makes it to the finished product. It is left behind in the form of offcuts, scraps, fabric roll ends, and samples. Material that, in most cases, is disposed of or, at best, recycled inefficiently. Yet, if we change our perspective, these very “scraps” represent one of the greatest opportunities to rethink the textile system in a truly sustainable way.
